Accusations from the general prosecution office in Ismailia to some Uglu Factory workers: assembling, creating unrest in the streets, incitation to strike in the Factory occupation and creating chaos in public roads

On Tuesday September 17 2019, Ismailia prosecution is pursuing its investigation under process-verbal number 4012/2019 with workers in the Uglu Factory located in Ismailia investment zone.  On September 16, the security forces dispersed the sit-in of the Factory's workers and arrested 19 of them, including both men and women.  The office of the prosecution released 13 among the number of arrested workers while the remaining ones were accused of assembling, incitation to strike, provoking unrest in public roads and harming the country's economy.

The six workers under accusation are

  • Iman Abdel Hamid Abdallah (woman)
  • Samira Sayed Mohamed (woman)
  • Mohamed Essam Mohamed (man)
  • Alaa Ibrahim Mohamed (man
  • Nader El SayedMohanedKandil (man)
  • Ibrahim Mohamed Ali (man)

It is important to note that the workers had begun a sit-in on the 14th of September to protest against the administration's abstention from paying them their due annual raise of salary in July for two consecutive years, besides being deprived from any compensation regarding the prevailing high inflation rates.

CTUWS declares its full solidarity with the legitimate demands of these workers and reconfirms the right of all workers to freely express their claims, defend their interests as well as negotiating these rights.  We also point out to the danger of using violence against workers' strikes and strongly request instead to adopt the process of reactivating collective bargaining as a safety means of solving work conflicts.
