In the sternest of words – although they will never be enough- the Center for Trade Union and Worker Services denounces the criminal terrorist operation that targeted the St. Peter Church in Abbasyia on the grim Sunday morning. It also shares the sorrow and pain of the families of the martyrs and extends its condolences to all Egyptians. We also wish a speedy recovery for all the injured.

Cairo has woken up yesterday to a bloody message of hatred that has exceeded all imagination.. and as hurtful and shocking the scene was it called for anger and a call for confrontation.

The Center for Trade Union and Worker Services raises a call with the bereaved families of the martyrs and the angry crowds in front of the Cathedral and all Egyptian for a confrontation and demands and asserts once again a full confrontation with terrorism that cannot be achieved without a partnership with all Egyptians.

The comprehensive confrontation with terrorism demands and includes a drying up of its sources.. a confrontation with its ideas instead of a retreating in front of it and confronting hatred and rejection of the other in a society that seeks diversity and accepts differences, confronting exclusion with an elevation of the values of equality and implementing law without discrimination; besieging terrorism by depriving it from the environment that nurses it; through opening up the public domain; empowering social strata to express their interests and demands freely; expanding and developing civil society rather than suffocating it and besieging it; allowing the freedom of organizing unions and associations; stop pursuing anyone who differs – in any way- with the state policies; stopping the pumping of blood into the veins of terrorism and gifting new terrorists and their supporters from among those harmed by the unfair security practices.

The direct reactions of the lowly attacks last Sunday, that came out of parties “aligned” to the state institutions is worrisome. The parliament members “who are supporters of the state” see no way to confront terrorism except with the amendment of the terrorism law and the law of criminal procedures so that appeals may only be permitted once and opening the road to more death penalties.  Moreover they demand the referral of more cases to military trials while “loyal” media personalities compete in addressing and flirting with the instincts of revenge alone in the minds and consciousness of people. Additionally they try to distract attention to “foreign conspirators” and “International intelligence agencies” rather than dealing seriously with the terrorism that grows in our land and which has expanded in it over decades.

What is surprising is that the parliament knows no role other than issuing legislations that are limiting to freedoms and challenge our constitution and contradicts it publicly. It pays no attention to its censorial role and is not pay attention- or maybe he does not want- to discuss the efficiency of security apparatus in blocking the road in front of terrorist operations. This was not only the case in St. Peter Church (which is inside the walls of the Cathedral) incident but also in the Haram Road incident in which six policemen fell as martyrs and the Kafr El Shiekh incident that coincided with it. It is also not concerned with the feelings of bitterness that are felt by our Copts because of the state apparatus’  slackness of the state apparatus in conducting an investigation that is serious and transparent in the All Saints Church that took place five years ago and its perpetrators have not yet been found.

The Center for Trade Union and Worker Services denounces the terrorist operation and those who have planned and executed from among those who have lost their humanity and demands that all procedures necessary to reveal them and put them on trial. It also denounces the two terrorist organizations last Friday and stresses the seriousness of the moment we are living. CTUWS also demands a comprehensive confrontation with terrorism in which all Egyptians will participate. Egyptians will not be able to confront terrorism except if they are partners with full powers and rights.
