A roundtable in Upper Egypt for Discussing an Analytical Documenting Study Entitled (Women and Work in Egypt)

Within the framework of the CTUWS program for woman and work and the Center’s interest in researching the state of working women and female trade union members, the Center organized a roundtable in Upper Egypt.

Discussing an Analytical Documenting Study Entitled (Women and Work in Egypt) By Dr. Howaida Adly, Professor of Political Science in the National Centre for Social and Criminal Studies.
The discussion addressed the research efforts concerned with women and work in Egypt since 2000 and until now through different publications by Egyptian, Arab, and international academic institutions and NGOs which provides an easily referenced database. The discussion, seeking to present a comprehensive picture of women in the work field from social, economic and legal aspects, addressed a number of the approaches in the study, focusing on statistics and their important significance. In addition, it covered the situation of working women in regards to the Egyptian law, the extent to which it adheres to the ILO and other standards, and the availability of a bibliographic list in alphabetical order of Arab and foreign studies.
The roundtable was attended by a number of NGOs interested in researching the rights of working women, female trade unionists from Cairo, Alexandria, Gharbia, Suez and Qena, who are members of the Permanent Conference for Working Woman, in addition to a number of labor and union leaders. The roundtable was concluded by providing recommendations that need to be addressed in future research, conducted within the framework of a joint collaboration between NGOs and academic researchers regarding the situation of working women and female union members.
