The Strike of Mahalla Female Workers

Around 3700 female workers in the textile factories of Mahalla, affiliated with Mahalla Spinning Company, have declared a strike in protest against the exemption of the public sector (State-Owned Companies(, including Mahalla Spinning Company, from the presidential decision to raise the minimum wage to 6000 Egyptian pounds. The workers chanted slogans against the Governor of Gharbia, Dr. Tarek Rahmi, during his attendance at the Ramadan Expo, forcing him to leave the exhibition quickly, while the workers attempted to leave the factory for the company's yard, but security closed the factory gates to prevent them from leaving. This prompted workers from other factories within the same company to threaten to join the strike if their demand to raise the minimum wage is not met.
