Blatant Assault on Freedoms of Association

The Ministry of Labour launched an illegal attack on the Union of Workers in Suez Canal Clubs (which is a member in the Solidarity of Trade Unions Federation) by issuing a decision from the Minister of Labour and officials at the Suez Canal Clubs in February 2024 to stop transferring of union membership dues although they were deducted from workers.

Independent Trade Unions Launch Solidarity of Trade Unions Federation

Today, Solidarity of Trade Unions Federation (STUF) was born. Its founding general assembly approved the Constitution and elected the Executive Board thereof hoping to start a new phase of workers’ struggle led by a real federation of independent Egyptian trade unions.

A delegation from independent Egyptian trade unions expressed its protest against the International Labour Organization's (ILO) stance on the aggression against Palestine in a meeting with Mr. Eric Oechslin, the director of the technical team for decent work in North African countries and the director of the ILO office in Egypt and Eritrea. The delegation handed him a letter from the independent unions addressed to the organization's general director, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, objecting to the statement issued by the organization regarding the Israeli aggression on Palestine.
